Dear Sir/ Madam,

We hope you are well. We are a local action group set up during the pandemic because we became aware the Best and Most Versatile farmland at Westgate & Garlinge is under threat from a development of 2000 houses and we also became aware that this is happening all over Thanet. Thanet’s Local Plan up to 2030 has a housing target of over 17,000 houses, most of it allocated on BMV farmland, so we are campaigning to save Thanet’s farmland.

The Community Planning Alliance is holding a national day of action on Saturday 18th April 2026, to highlight the threat to parks, nature and the countryside (which includes farmland) across the country from development. Westgate & Garlinge Action Group Against Housing Development on Farmland are going to participate.

Our preferred idea is to have tractors with information displayed on them showing the issues and threats to our farmland and spaces for nature in Thanet going in convoys across Thanet to raise people’s awareness and encourage them to write to the government about their concerns. Then at various points across Thanet we want to have people standing alongside the road with banners and placards and scarecrows blowing whistles. We are going to sound out Quex Farm if they will participate. We are hoping that you know some local farmers who may want to participate with their tractors. If you could please ask if they are happy for you to pass on their contact details to us so we can get in touch or if they aren’t comfortable with this, if you could give them our group’s email to contact us it is [email protected] . We hope that you are available on 18th April, to join in with your tractors and support the campaign to save Thanet’s farmland from development.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Kind regards

Neil Woodward
